  • DR ADRIAN PENNEY

    MB, BS, MRCS, LRCP, DFFP Cert Med Ed - GMC 2531975

    Qualified February 1979, Guys Hospital, London. Adrian was born in Bishop’s Castle and feels privileged to be able to return home to work in a rural general practice. He is a generalist but has a special interest in the Community Hospital and palliative care. He is also involved in representing the needs of a rural community within the health economy of Shropshire and the West Midlands.

    I'm originally from Northern Ireland before coming across to university at Cambridge then King's College London before completing my GP training in South Shropshire. I've never left since, appreciating the openness of this part of the world. I Enjoy the full diversity of general practice and being involved in medical student training and training the next generation of GPs. Outside of work I am interested in gardening, country life, increasing self-sufficiency and folk music amongst other things .

    Eleanor qualified from Keele University in 2015. Whilst completing her medical training in Shropshire, she fell in love with the hills, countryside and local way of life which resulted in her enthusiasm to pursue a calling as a rural GP in this area. She has a long-time interest in the effects of lifestyle choice on general health and wellbeing. This interest is under-pinned by her coordination of and involvement with a range of associated community projects in her training. On a personal note, Eleanor loves the arts and feels fortunate to work in a part of Shropshire where these are such a prominent feature."

    Laura is originally from Mid Wales but moved on to train in Manchester in 2006. Since qualifying in 2011 she has lived and worked in Shropshire. Laura has a special interest in Paediatrics as well as teaching and training.

    Claudia joined the practice in 2014 she is responsible for acute cases but she is proficient in many practice nurse duties such as dressings, injections blood pressure and ECG's. Previously Claudia has worked in minor injuries at Ludlow Hospital.

    Sarah was a Staff Nurse at Bishops Castle Stone House Hospital and joined the practice in May 2014. Proficient in taking bloods, and general practice nurse duties such as suturing and removal of stitches, dressings, ECG and taking blood pressure.

  • KERRY ROBERTS

    Kerry joined the practice in August 2014 from Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where she worked on the surgical ward. Kerry's duties include blood tests, blood pressure readings, ECG's, stitch removals & dressings, cervical screening and ear syringing. Kerry can administer all immunisations including childhood immunisations & travel health immunisations. Kerry has a special interest in diabetes and also runs our Help 2 Quit and Help to Slim programmes.

    Caroline joined as a Practice Nurse in February 2020 from Severn Hospice where she worked with the community palliative team. Caroline's duties include blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, wound care, suture removal and ECGs. Caroline also runs the childrens immunisation clinics here.

Reception

Our reception is the engine house of the practice and provides an important link for patients with the practice. When telephoning for medical attention the receptionist may ask you for a few details, all receptionists are fully trained and ask for these details so you can be directed to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, home visit request and take telephone messages. At certain times in the day our reception is very busy and there may be a slight delay so please be patient until they can attend to you.

Secretaries

Our secretaries are responsible for ensuring all letters including hospital referrals are prepared and sent out as requested by the doctors. They act as an important liaison between patients and doctors and vice-versa.

Community Midwives

Midwives are based in Ludlow Community Hospital, they hold clinics on Tuesday afternoons at the surgery.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Social Prescribers

Social prescribing clinics are held at the surgery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Children and Young Persons Social Prescriber

Children and Young People aged between 12 -25 can be referred to the Social Prescriber for a number of reason including; mental health, anxiety, social isolation & lacking self confidence. The Social Prescribing Link Worker can work together with an individual to develop a personalised action plan to improve their health and wellbeing. Follow-up support can be provided according to need and progress will be monitored.
