Blood Tests

Due to the continuing chronic underfunding of Primary Care, we have taken the difficult decision to stop blood tests at the practice as of 22nd May 2024.

This is not decision we wanted to make and we are aware that this will be very unpopular with all of our patients, but unfortunately we cannot afford to continue to provide this service.

Taking blood and processing it for delivery to the lab is not a Core GP service for which we are paid but one of several additional Locally Commissioned  Services (LCS) which are paid for (or not) by the Local Integrated Care Board(ICB).

We have approached Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Integrated Care Board and asked for the funding to be increased for this service, so that we may continue to offer the level of care that is expected of us. At the time of publishing this notice, we have had no offer of increased funding.

All patients who require a blood test will now need to attend the Path Lab at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or Princess Royal Hospital, or a community diagnostic centre at Telford or Whitchurch. Blood tests are only available by appointment, there is no walk in service. Appointments can be made online at

https://www.sath.nhs.uk/wards-services/az-services/pathology/phlebotomy/book-a-blood-test

Or by telephone on 01743 492510

If you wish to complain about the withdrawal of this service, please contact the ICB at

STW.patientservices@nhs.net

Or by telephone on 01952 580407

Please do not complain to our reception team, they have not made this decision and will be following instructions from the partners.

This decision has been made to safeguard the future of the practice.
